Hexton Youth Report - 30th Nov

Hexton Youth - 5 Houghton Regis Youth - 2

Hexton Youth faced a tough fixture this weekend, after losing the last two games despite having enough chances to take full points. The opponents were Houghton Regis Youth who had already dumped Hexton out of the County Cup 8-0 earlier this campaign, the Hexton boys knew they were in for a tough tie. With the weather conditions not being fantastic and both teams only having the bare 11 players the game kicked off with the visitors having the best of the possession for the first 10 minutes. Hexton rode the pressure and seemed to grow in confidence as the game progressed. The rest of the first half was quite evenly balanced until Hextons centre forward popped up 5 minutes before half time with the opening goal. The home team went in at half time 1 goal up.

Half time Hexton Youth 1 – 0 Houghton Regis Youth

The second half kicked off and within 20 seconds, the home teams big centre forward had claimed his second goal of the afternoon and Hexton were 2 up. From that moment on Hexton dominated with every player working their socks off for the team. This paid off as from the pressure Hexton got another goal, two attempts saved by the Houghton Regis keeper but the third shot was rocketed home for Hextons right midfielder scoring his second goal in as many games. 3-0.

At this point all the home support were looking at their watches but there was still 20 minutes to go and no sooner than the spectators had recovered from the third goal, Hextons other striker finished with a cheeky tap in breaking his duck this season. 4 to the good but bad news, Hextons captain who has had a terrible leg injury of late had to come off the pitch leaving the home team defending their lead with 10 just men. Houghton Regis took advantage of the extra player and managed to pull a very tidy goal back but Hexton replied immediately with a 5th if there own and the second of the season for their striker. 5-1.

Houghton Regis never stopped fighting and managed a last minute goal to bring their tally a little closer to the home team, but Hexton saw out the minutes and finished 5-2 victors.
